Technology

We're excited to bring you the latest advanced technology, techniques, and services that dentistry offers at Thurmont Family Dentistry. Modern technology and equipment help us to provide you with an exceptional experience.

Read on to learn more about some of the state-of-the-art technology you'll find at our Thurmont dental office.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays allow us to safely capture images that give us an internal view of your teeth and mouth and are integral to diagnosing common dental problems like gum disease and tooth decay.

The images are readily available for review, easily shared with other providers if necessary, and safer for our patients than traditional film x-rays because they emit less radiation. They're also safer for our environment because they don't require chemicals for development.

Panoramic X-Ray

Panoramic x-rays give us a full view of your teeth in one image. This is particularly useful for looking at wisdom teeth (third molars), planning for orthodontic treatment, identifying cysts, monitoring bone levels, and planning for oral surgeries.

Our dentists may also recommend taking a panographic x-ray as a baseline and every five years afterward to monitor your dental health.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

If you've ever felt fearful about visiting the dentist, nitrous oxide may be an ideal solution. The breathable gas helps "take the edge off" during dental procedures and helps anxious patients feel at ease without lingering side effects afterward.

Nitrous oxide is safe for adults and children, and we can use it during most types of dental procedures. If you feel that you would benefit from using nitrous oxide during your dental treatment, talk with one of our dentists about your options.

Intraoral Camera

Patients truly feel empowered when making decisions about their dental health when they can see what their dentist sees.

Our intraoral camera allows us to share any concerns our dentists see in your mouth in full-color pictures. The pen-sized device fits into your mouth and comfortably captures images we can review together. The result is that you can make educated decisions about the best treatment for your smile.

Digital Impressions

Have you ever had to endure a messy and uncomfortable impression to capture molds of your teeth? Those days are over!

These days, we can comfortably scan and produce a 3-D image of your teeth, allowing us to design and create beautiful restorations for your smile with precision and accuracy.

Digital impressions have streamlined many dental procedures, making them more efficient and comfortable for our patients.

Digital Records

With digital records, we can safely capture your health information and securely store it in our network. This allows us quick and easy access to details about your dental health when we need it and an efficient way to share information with pertinent providers when it's necessary.

Same-Day Dental Restorations

Our in-office milling machine has made completing same-day dental restorations, like a dental crown or veneer, even easier. Our dentists will capture a 3-D image of your compromised tooth that they will use to design your new restoration.

The completed specifications are sent to our milling machine, which fabricates your new restoration using high-quality porcelain. We can then deliver your restoration to you and make any needed adjustments during the same appointment with no waiting time.
