Composite Bonding

Dr. Sarah Raymond and her team take a conservative approach to dental treatments, which means she aims to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible when restoring your teeth. This is why we solely use tooth-colored composite resin to restore teeth with tooth decay and cavities.

Our goal is to help you preserve your natural teeth for as long as possible with the healthiest materials and treatment techniques for your smile.

Safe Amalgam Filling Removal in Thurmont

Silver amalgam material was used in the past for dental fillings; however, metal fillings may not be ideal for some patients with sensitivities. Many patients choose to replace their old amalgam fillings with composite resin tooth-colored fillings that provide durability and aesthetics.

Dr. Raymond also follows the principles, techniques, and guidelines for safe amalgam removal techniques when replacing metal fillings with composite resin, protecting our patients, team members, and dentists from the harmful vapors accompanying this type of procedure.

The Differences Between Composite Resin and Metal Amalgam

Composite resin is a mixture of fine resin and glass particles that our dentists can customize to match and blend seamlessly with your tooth so your dental work doesn't detract from your smile. They bond the material directly to your tooth, which provides strength and durability.

Some of the advantages over metal fillings that composite resin fillings provide are:

  • Aesthetics: Composite fillings are customizable and don’t detract from your smile.
  • Durability: Direct bonding to the tooth makes it strong and durable.
  • Conservative: Our dentists don’t need to remove as much tooth structure to place a composite filling as they would for a metal filling.
  • Integrity: Unlike composite resin, metal fillings expand and contract with temperature changes in the mouth, causing them to pull away from the tooth and allow bacteria back in, eventually resulting in cracks and tooth fractures.

Tooth-colored fillings in Thurmont offer an excellent alternative to metal amalgam fillings.

Composite Bonding Offers a Cosmetic Alternative

Our dentists can also use composite resin material for a procedure called bonding that restores minor cosmetic issues like:

  • Spacing between teeth
  • Tooth size discrepancies
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Tooth staining or discoloration
  • Broken or chipped teeth

Restoring your smile with cosmetic bonding can often be completed during one visit to our Thurmont dental office. The procedure is minimally invasive and affordable because it tends to be less expensive than other cosmetic dental treatments.

Booking an evaluation is the first step in learning if cosmetic bonding might be suitable for your needs.

They make you feel right at home immediately.

The BEST Dental Care we have ever experienced! My husband was referred to Dr. Rebecca Rogers by a friend. My husband came home talking about how amazing, straight forward and honest Dr. Roger was. Now the whole family sees Dr. Rogers- My child Lovers her!! . The staff was very friendly and helpful; they make you feel right at home immediately. I have been to other dentists that exaggerated what my needs were in order to make more money. So it was a relief to find a dentist with integrity and amazing bedside manner as well as amazing staff!
